Some more updates...
FYI in case you haven't already checked it out, MP's statement of apology was added to his Facebook fan page, and comments have been added again. The statement was also added to his swimroom.com blog.

Let the clean up begin.

We need a blog from GMM.
Dεαnnα Mαriεsassycat on February 2nd, 2009 02:55 am (UTC)
Uggh, I wonder what he would have to say about this fiasco... *ponders*
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 2nd, 2009 03:01 am (UTC)
So far all we have a few Twitter updates...when it first came out, he expressed that he was concerned and that he hoped people would maintain some perspective. Later on after MP's statement was issued, he said something along the lines that he thought MP should have waited 24 hours before saything anything. I'm not so sure I agree with that assessment because of the seriousness of the situation, but GMM's never steered us wrong. I just need a bit more insight than a few Tweets, though. He may have a blog ready by tomorrow.

I didn't know GMM had a twitter. Where have I been...?

I agree, I don't think he should've waited any longer than he did.

I wonder about his POV. He may be supportive as a fellow swimmer and fan boy but he's also a father.
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 2nd, 2009 03:11 am (UTC)
If anything, I think he'll be fair. He's not going to condone what Phelps did, but he's already expressed concern and had stated that he hoped people would keep their perspective.

He's posting one tomorrow, bb.

But clean up with such a badly written statement?
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 2nd, 2009 02:56 am (UTC)
It's just a start. I honestly don't think that statement is going to be the end of it...especially after how fast this thing caught fire.
meowbunnymeowmeowbunnymeow on February 2nd, 2009 03:00 am (UTC)
But Octagon has no excuse. You get a PR guru in these crisis, not asking your no so busy clerk to doodle a few lines, even when time's short! I have a few of those PR big gun names in my head where Octagon can hire for help...
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 2nd, 2009 03:08 am (UTC)
I know, I know, it's a crap band-aid on a gaping wound. But it's because I know that, that I'm willing to give Phelps's camp some time to get their shit together. It's only been a day since this became public...I'm willing to be patient because there's nothing I or anyone else can do except wait.
meowbunnymeowmeowbunnymeow on February 2nd, 2009 03:10 am (UTC)
I can go to take some rest! A mean Bunny still needs to be pretty!
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 2nd, 2009 03:18 am (UTC)
Yes, we all still need out beauty sleep. Besides, tomorrow I find out if the dealership was able to get my car or not. I'm either going to be very happy or extremely pissy.
meowbunnymeowmeowbunnymeow on February 2nd, 2009 03:23 am (UTC)
Keep me posted. There are things I wanna talk to you about, I'll send you a message when my brain starts functioning again.

I am sure I'll talk to you sometime in the next day or two, now that you are taking a "L' break at the mo...
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 2nd, 2009 03:27 am (UTC)
No problem.
Dεαnnα Mαriεsassycat on February 2nd, 2009 02:56 am (UTC)
LOL trufax Bunny...trufax. He needs to do something a little more personal to really begin the healing for both himself and his fans. If he just stays in the shadows and wallows, he'll take an even harder hit. Like Megan said, he needs to show some emotion and he needs to get out there and apologize IN PERSON.
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 2nd, 2009 03:03 am (UTC)
I think that he will. I just have a feeling in my gut. Just give it a little time.
Dεαnnα Mαriεsassycat on February 2nd, 2009 03:06 am (UTC)
I still have some faith in him. I think he's smart enough to know he has to do something public. If I were him, I would be terrified...forreal. I think he's probably shitting his pants thinking of what his next move will be.

Wouldn't it be interesting to hear Bob's side to this?

Just thinking...

You know what I just realized? What are the media personalities that he talked with in interviews...what are they gonna say? Like Leno. What'll he say in his monologue? He can't ignore it, it's front-page headlines. I doubt he'll be too harsh taking stabs at him. But still. Or what about Hannity & Colmes?! I have a feeling they'll rip him apart. Just a feeling. Or what about the O'Reilly Factor? He was on his show in September of last year. Wow, things will not be good for Mr. Phelps tomorrow.

I wonder what Dan Patrick will say. I don't think he'll bash on him too much, though.

Oh God, something tells me that that radio personality who pissed off Mike last year by asking him questions like, "You don't go to clubs and drop cereal boxes on the floor?" crap is gonna have a fuckin' FIELD DAY right about now. This is not good.
Dεαnnα Mαriεsassycat on February 2nd, 2009 04:11 am (UTC)
Leno, Conan and the like are gonna take a few jabs...no denying that. It's their job.

I don't think the right-wingers are gonna give a flying fuck (because let's be honest, they don't want to popularize pot in the first place). So I think as far as talk show and late night'ers taking pokes at him, I think Leno, Conan, Letterman, Ferguson and the rest of the gang will take care of that just fine. And for at least a week or two.

And I'm sure the news will make it's way around GMA, Today and the like also. It's inevitable. He just needs to stand up with some conviction, apologize publicly and keep his ass in the fucking pool.
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 2nd, 2009 04:13 am (UTC)
Dan Le Batard. He'll have a fucking field day.
nancykerrigan on February 2nd, 2009 04:17 am (UTC)
Thanks for reminding me of the name. Yeah, true that.

I'm not totally convinced they knew about this "ahead of time" due to the fact that Phelps took off from Tampa so quickly. I mean, he was in Riyadh on Tuesday, probably left for home the next day, got to Tampa on Thursday, and Friday he was gone. He was a no-show for the Leather & Lace party in Tampa Friday night after he RSVP'd that he'd be there. Plus, we all knew he was going the game after the Ravens lost to the Steelers.

I wonder if Octagon was holding their breath, waiting to see if this was going to make the national news in the States...of which the second I saw that picture last night, I knew that it would, because it was unmistakably him. But I think that maybe we're putting too much emphasis on the statement, because it almost sounds assumptive that this is all we're going to get on the matter from the Phelps camp. I don't believe that for one minute. It's sloppy, yes. But to me, this doesn't sound any different from any other "public statement" he's made in the past regardless of the subject matter...why are we surprised? I know, because we expect more.

Like I keep saying, it's only been a day. I'm willing to give thme more time to get their shit together and come back with a more in-depth response, because they have to know this isn't going to go away quickly or quietly.

And yes. The entourage needs to *go*. NOW. I'm thinking of giving my Brute Squad a new objective...instead of the Anti-batshit-crazy-fangirl Brute Squad, I think we need to be the Anti-golddigging-succubi-entourage Brute Squad. Yes?

Honestly, I see Phelps as being a victim of his own generosity when it comes to this new entouarge he'd picked up. At first, I remember how he had stated that he flew a buddy of his out to Beijing to see him swim. And then we he started travelling, namely the first trip out to Vegas, he was with friends, but then started getting intros to the Vegas crowd. Next thing you knew, he was surrounded by poker players all the time because of his passion for the game. That's when the worm started to turn, I think. Gone were his swimming buddies, his high school buddies, his college pals. They'd been replaced by a much seedier bunch who were more than happy to get on the Phelps bandwagon because of the perks. The date for training started getting pushed out, he was hardly ever home...this wasn't the swimmer that I and a lot of people here went crazy over. Something was just *off*. We would talk about it some, but then we always came to the conclusion that he's 23, he's been locked up in training for the last 3-4 years, blah, blah, blah...let him have some fun.

My impression of Phelps was and always has been that he's a sweet, shy, big dork with a huge heart and a generous nature, but his naivety being his Achilles Heel. Considering the fact that he doesn't give the time of day to people who used to bully him as a kid, you wouldn't think he'd be so trusting. But I think he was so up on getting into the Poker scene with his time off, he just let himself get sucked into it too easily, and the new entourage latched on. It's that need for acceptance among his peers. Like amkf once said, he'll always be the kid who had his ears flicked.

Leeches. I hope they get what's coming to them karmicly.
