Ashton to the rescue!!...sort of.
This came though my Google alerts....I appreciate Kutcher's candidness.

Ashton Kutcher stands up for Michael Phelps

‘He’s a good kid,’ the actor posted to his Twitter account

Ashton Kutcher’s Twittering and video posting about a noisy neighbor landed him in hot water last week, but it hasn’t stopped the actor from staying busy on the mirco-blogging Web site.

Kutcher was inspired to blog about Olympic great Michael Phelps’ acknowledgment of a photo in a British newspaper, which showed the swimmer smoking marijuana.

“I wish the media would kill this Phelps story. God forbid he hit a bong. Go ask your 20 year old kid what they did last weekend,” Kutcher wrote Monday morning.

“I’m not saying it was a smart move. But he doesn’t need to be publicly outed for it. Who ever put the pic out is an a--!” the actor continued. “He’s a good kid. BTW he could be a real douche but he’s not. Maybe the media can quit dragging his d--- in the dirt.”

Kutcher said he does not smoke marijuana, but understands how the Olympic star could have made the mistake.

“I don’t smoke and haven’t in quite some time,” Kutcher continued. “But I’m not immune to a lapse in good judgement (sic) from time to time.”

Fans should expect more of Kutcher’s rants and musings to continue on Twitter as his wife, Demi Moore, who is also fond of the mirco-blogging Web site, told Access Hollywood on Sunday.

“We’re big fans of Twitter,” she said. “We’re addicted.”

I liked this one:

North Kingstown High School swimmer Elizabeth Beisel, a 2008 Olympics teammate of Michael Phelps, said he is still her "role model" despite the publication of a photo showing him inhaling from a marijuana pipe.

Beisel, 15, commenting during a break in a swim meet between North Kingstown and Mount St. Charles Academy, at the Community College of Rhode Island on Monday, referred to speculation that the photo could cost Phelps millions of dollars in lucrative endorsements.

That, she said, could be "the price he has to pay for that picture."

Good for her. I'm glad that a good majority of people are supporting Phelps like this, and being understanding of the fact that he made a dumb mistake, just like everyone else does.

Octagon, on the other hand...*grrrrrrrrr*........

I don't think any of us are right now. Phelps is the one getting the hits, but his agency fucked up even bigger than he did. And hardly anyone is talking about their actions. That pisses me off.

Mazda supporting him

From this article:

It's too early to say what impact the incident will have on Phelps' endorsement deals in China. Dan Mintz, founder and chief executive of DMG, a Beijing-based advertisingand public relations agency that brokered Phelps' endorsement deal with Mazda, says that Mazda is standing by Phelps despite this "particular youthful incident."

Well that's one more down...

Where in the hell is Carlisle? That's what I wanna know...

Not gonna lie, I'm surprised by how many people aren't upset at Phelps but realize it was just a lapse in judgment that anyone can make. Maybe I was clouded by my fangirl opinion, thinking everyone else would tear him to shreds. I'm glad to hear I'm wrong.

I know a lot of people are in the "it's just pot" category...I'm not. I've never done drugs, never intend to. I know what it does to people and I can't act like it's OK. In my world, it's not. I'm not angry that he chose to smoke pot, that's his deal. What pisses me off is that MP chose to do it at an unfamiliar house party with unfamiliar people. Bad idea, especially if you're the most famous athlete on earth. His choices are his, and he needs to stand up to them and OWN them.

By no means do I approve of his behavior and I'm not even touching the excuse "it's just pot". It's illegal. Plain and simple. I don't like that people are shrugging it off with that excuse, but everyone's entitled to to their own opinion. But I am glad that more people are forgiving him and not hating him for the screw up.

Sorry, that kind of went OT and I ended up venting a little...LOL

I think Deb forgives him. Extremely hurt by her son's actions, but I don't think she'll have an issue with forgiving him. I believe her opinion is the only one that matters to him, and being upset and disappointed doesn't mean she won't be quick to forgive. I don't want to compare Mama Phelps with myself, but I'm hurt by what did and I also forgive him. She's a remarkable woman and I *know* he's got to be torn to pieces because he hurt her.

...What you said actually led to one of my other concerns that I hdn't really vocalized myself...you've heard me say that I've smoked pot three times in my life, but the third and final time I smoked it *was* the final time because I found out after the fact that it had been laced. Did Phelps ever stop to think about what maybe he was smoking might have been cut with another drug? Evidently not. People cut pot with heroine, soak it in formaldehyde (enbalming fluid)...god knows what else.

Pot by itself, in my opinion, really is harmless. It's when pot is cut with other drugs that it becomes really dangerous. Maybe the pot/tobacco combo doesn't fall into that category, but when it's cut with heroine and the like is when you're going into new territory.

I was scared of the same thing you were...scared *for* him, actually. I think the initial shock is over with and things seems to be coming out okay so far, but I just have this feeling the tabloids are going to be after him even more than they were before. Like we're not sick to death of them already...
Meganmeganrenee323 on February 3rd, 2009 02:04 am (UTC)
It's really going rather smoothly...which is strange to me. Should I be concerned? Blech.

I actually wouldn't have a problem with him talking to kids about this incident, over the next year or so. Not an onslaught of appearances though, that to me would appear insincere.
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 3rd, 2009 02:35 am (UTC)
Me either...especially if he genuinely wants to keep his ties with the Girls & Boys Club.
radrluv69radrluv69 on February 3rd, 2009 04:00 am (UTC)
I think that Speedo will renew with him, but I'm doubtful on Subway. Speedo still stuck with him after the DUI arrest, but I'm sure they'll be keeping a close eye on him for the rest of the year.
amkfsisterruth on February 3rd, 2009 04:02 am (UTC)
Oh, no doubt that Speedo will keep him, but I think that instead of getting a new contract worth maybe 3X as much as the old one, he'll be lucky to get one that's worth more than the one he already has.

IA.
tooh1999tooh1999 on February 3rd, 2009 04:07 am (UTC)
yep, I think it will all depend upon how he conducts himself this next year. If he gets back to actually swimming, and does well at the Worlds, and conducts himself with as much maturity he can muster, this will become more of a sidenote than an actual problem.

But if he continues to participate in questionable behavior or continues to surround himself with the same entourage, it will matter when it comes to resigning these endorsements.

I have on Leno right now, holding my breath to see if he cracks any MP jokes.
